Jura limestone was formed approximately 180 million years ago, when the ancient sea in the Bavarian Altmühl Valley receded and the animals and plants of the marine world slowly sank to the bottom. It encapsulated the prehistoric creatures as fossils, serving today as a unique witness to our past.

Jura limestone was already a popular building material in Roman times and can be found in numerous medieval structures. It has a high density, yet as a soft sedimentary rock, it is excellently suited for surface detailing.

Care instructions: Jura limestone is easy to care for, as it weathers or gathers moss very slowly. To further delay this process, we also seal our stones. Thanks to our proven sealing system, the Portland model pillow headstone is even less susceptible to the elements, as well as being water- and dirt-repellent.

The inscription will be arranged according to your wishes in consultation with our specialist staff and then hand-engraved into the stone by our stonemasons.
